Implant Retained Dentures

Implant retained dentures are secured through dental implants.

What are Implant Retained Dentures?

More commonly referred to as implant-supported dentures, an implant-retained denture is a denture that is attached to 2 or more dental implants.

This treatment option is ideal for those who have adequate jawbone density and would prefer to have their denture secured with a long-term healthy option.

Implant-Supported Dentures

If you are a suitable candidate for implant-supported dentures, the process can take 3 to 4 months.

This time frame is determined by the healing time of the dental implants. A minimum of two implants will be placed in your jaw to secure the implant in place. If you have a denture already, this can reduce not only the treatment time but also the cost.

If you don’t have a denture, you will be fitted for one while you wait for the dental implants to heal. This allows us to fit your denture as soon as your implants are healed and ready to support a denture.

Often people think implant-supported dentures are for a whole row of teeth, but in fact, partial dentures can be placed on implants as well. The benefit of a partial denture supported by implants is the same as for a whole row of teeth.

There is also the added benefit that an implant-supported partial denture can provide support for your remaining teeth, helping them to last longer.

Advantages of Implant-Supported Dentures

Attaching a denture to implants provides more stability and better support for your jaw. Implants provide better support for your jaws by replacing the tooth root.

When you chew, your teeth stimulate your jaw stimulating jawbone growth. Once you lose a tooth, your jawbone starts to atrophy because there’s nothing there to stimulate growth.

And so, because implants should minimise the jawbone atrophying that comes with missing teeth, you shouldn’t have to change or adjust your denture as often.
